Every year, winter weather brings with it potentially serious injuries. With snow and ice on the sidewalks and parking lots, injuries following slips and falls are commonly seen in the ER, doctor’s offices and therapy clinics such as HandHealth at Valley Regional.

When a person loses their balance and begins to fall, the most common instinct is to throw their hand out in front of them, or behind them (depending on which direction they are falling) to break the fall and protect the head and face from injury.
