X-Rays
Radiologic or X-ray exams use a low dose form of radiation, which passes through objects, and create an image, much like a photograph. At Valley Regional Hospital these images are digital in nature. This simple and painless procedure allows physicians to view bones, organs, or soft tissue anatomy as part of a diagnostic evaluation. Common types of x-rays include bone, chest, abdominal, and the lower or upper gastrointestinal tract.
Radiologic exams are available to outpatients with a Doctors order 5 days a week from 9:00 am until 5:00 pm. Emergency CT exams are available 7 days a week, 24 hours per day via Valley Regional Hospital's Emergency department.
Radiologic exams usually take 15 to 30 minutes to be done. The patient may be asked to lie on their back. Preps for these procedures will vary from none, to nothing passed by mouth, to an extensive bowel prep for exams of the lower digestive system.
A report on a Radiologic x-ray procedure is sent to the Doctor that orders the exam in usually 1-3 days.
Outpatient exams are scheduled at Valley Regional Hospital's Central Scheduling department. They can be reached at 603 542-1870.
