CVHC Hospice Our Hospice program is dedicated to providing the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of the terminally ill client and allows them to remain in their home. Hospice is individualized care for the whole person in the final stages of life. It provides pain and symptom relief, emotional and spiritual support for individuals and families. Our hospice team offers an interdisciplinary approach to allow the opportunity to prepare for the end of life journey.

Hospice services include 24-hour, on-call skilled nursing, pain management, personal care, homemaking, rehabilitation therapies, as well as emotional and spiritual counseling for patients and family members.

CVHC features a special volunteer component uniquely fit for our Hospice program. Community volunteers trained in the special needs of Hospice patients and family members offer friendship and support, household help, home visits, bereavement and support groups. Our volunteers can offer family members a bit of a break, beyond that of the hands-on assistance that the home health care team offers. They can sit with a patient while the family attends to daily routines, runs errands, or just whatever time the family needs for themselves. Just offering an ear to listen to the client and the family is a huge support.

As one family member states regarding their Hospice volunteer, "It was like a new lease on life when they appeared. I gained such physical and emotional relief from the hospice volunteer visits. There was so much comfort from knowing they were going to be there for you. You have to go through it to know the peace that it brings you."

Being at the bedside, holding the patient's hand, monitoring their comfort level, and informing the Hospice nurse and team when needed is such a valuable service.
